John chapter 1:1ff Explained

John chapter 1 starts by saying “In the beginning was the word”. This clearly informs any bible student that John is referring is back to the Creation narrative in Genesis chapter 1.

John went on to explain in verse 3 that all things were made by the word of God. How can we understand this? We will have to go back to Genesis creation to only see that all things came into existence after God SPOKE His word. For example:

Gen 1:3 KJV And God SAID, Let there be light: and there was light.

As you can see, God created everything simply by uttering His Word. The word of God is same as God.

Please note that although John 1:3,4 used ‘him’ for the word, the right translation is ‘it’ as you can see in the 16th century Bishop’s Bible:

Joh 1:3-4 Bishops “3 All things were made by it: and without it, was made nothing that was made. 4 In it was life, and the life was the light of men,”

This is also a clear reference to Genesis 1:3 when God said “let the be light, and there was light”.

If you noticed, this word of God is personified. Unfortunately, many people think that the word of God is literally a person or Jesus Christ. How can a literal person be the word in God’s mouth? This is not possible.

The Bible only speak of the Word of God as if its a person or a messenger, or does not mean that Jesus was literally there in the mouth of God:

Isa 55:11 KJV “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”

WHERE DID JESUS CHRIST COME IN?

In John 1:14, this same creative WORD OF GOD was uttered by God and it created Jesus Christ.

Joh 1:14 KJV ” And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”

Just as God used His word to create things out of nothing, at the right time, God put the same word in the mouth of Gabriel who came down and spoke to Mary that although she was a virgin, a flesh or human would be miraculously formed or created in her womb!

Because no man slept with Mary in other to conceive Jesus, Jesus was created by the spoken word of God and he was therefore literally the Son of God. He has no earthly Father. His father is the Word that was spoken and that word is God.
