The Bible: Our guide to the gospel

Length: 10 minutes

Let us talk about the Bible which we believe is the word of God. But before then, if we are sincere enough, we will all admit that man, despite all his intelligence, is actually helpless. We can not save ourselves from all the chaos around us. We will eventually die and not only lie lifeless beneath the ground to be feasted upon by worms, but also decompose into dust. This is the sad reality of life.

What then is life? What is the meaning of life? Who can tell us the meaning of life? Who can tell us if a dead man or woman will somehow or someday live again?

Since we know that there is indeed a God that created us and everything, we must naturally turn to him for answers to all these questions. This is why we need the Bible. It is the only inspired word of God on earth.

The Bible and Inspiration

One of the first things that will amaze you is the very fact that the Bible contains words that boldly claim to be the word of God. This is not just a claim, it is true that the Bible is the word of God. We read that:

16  All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
17  that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

2 Timothy 3:16,17

We learn here that all scripture is inspired or breathed out by God. It is true that ordinary mortal men wrote the Bible but God inspired them to write down these things, so it was not their thoughts or their words but the word of God.

20  knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation.
21  For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit

2 Peter 1:20,21

For over 3,000 years ago since Moses the man of God started writing down the first 5 books of the 66 books of the Bible till almost 2,000 years ago when John the apostle of our Lord Jesus Christ, wrote the book of Revelation, which is the last book of the Bible, this holy book has stood the test of time with many of its prophecies fulfilled accurately.

The message of the Bible: The gospel

In the Bible we have the word of God. The Bible tells us about God Himself and His plan to save man (that is you) from sin and death. God wants you and I to live forever and He has put everything in place to bring it to reality. You will get to know about the divine message of hope or the gospel in the Bible.

Here are the 3 points of the entire message of the Bible

  1. The creation of man and the fall of man
  2. Laws, teachings and prophecies that points to Jesus Christ
  3. The Life of Jesus Christ and visions of the coming kingdom of God.

Jesus Christ: The focus of the Bible

After the fall of man, the earliest books of the Bible gave amazing prophecies of the birth of a man that would save and change the world.

For example, over 700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ, Isaiah prophesied and wrote:

6  For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7  Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.

Isaiah 9:6,7

This is a prophecy of a son that will be born to the house of David. This son will reign and establish God’s kingdom from the throne of David in Jerusalem forever.

Over 700 years later, Jesus Christ was born! Before his birth, God sent an angel known as Gabriel who reminded Mary the mother of Jesus, that her son was a fulfillment of the ancient prophecy of Isaiah and other prophets in the Bible. The angel told Mary:

31  And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.
32  He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David,
33  and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

Luke 1:31-33

Indeed Jesus Christ was born. His birth literally changed the world. No one has changed the world like Jesus. His teachings are revered in almost every religion on earth. And most importantly, Jesus explained to us clearly the meaning of life and gave us a hope of living eternally after death.

To show that God is really willing to perform everything He promised us through Jesus Christ, God raised him up the after he died and in the presence of many people, Jesus ascended into heaven! Acts 2:9-11

The promise of us living forever in the Kingdom of God!

The prophecy of Isaiah speaks of Jesus Christ establishing a divine kingdom that will last forever. This is good news. The rest of the scriptures tell us that this kingdom will be a kingdom of peace and most importantly, those who believe in Jesus today will be able to live forever in that kingdom!

The last book of the Bible assures us that this promise is true:

3  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

5  And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.

Revelation 21:3-5
