The Kingdom of God

Length: 10 minutes
Visions of the kingdom of God.

Kingdom is from 2 words: King + Domain and so it is true, for there to be a kingdom, there must be a king and a domain or territory for the king to rule.

What is the kingdom of God?

The Bible speaks of the kingdom of men which is the human governments we see in every country today. The bible also speak of the kingdom of God. The gospel the apostolic christians preached was about this kingdom of God and Jesus Christ:

But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

Acts 8:12

The kingdom of God is when God will take over the governments of this world and install Jesus as the king of the whole world. Then God’s will will be done in the whole world!

Don’t take our world for it. The entire scripture speaks of this time when the promises made to Abraham and David will be fulfilled in Christ Jesus. At that time, the prayer our Lord Jesus Christ will be fulfilled when he asked us to pray:

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven!

Matthew 6:10

Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever.”

Revelation 11:15

And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever

Daniel 2:44

What will life in the Kingdom of God be like?

The kingdom of God will be filled with such divine blessings that has never entered into the heart of any man. We can only go to the scripture to fill our heart with this precious hope and promise.

3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There won’t be death anymore. There won’t be any grief, crying, or pain, because the first things have disappeared.”

5 The one sitting on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new!” He said, “Write this: ‘These words are trustworthy and true. ’”

Revelation 21:3-5

Kingdom of God to come: Heaven or Earth?

The kingdom of God is coming back to be established on earth. This is what our lord Jesus and all his apostles preached.

Jesus asked us to pray for God’s kingdom to come on earth and for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. This prayer of course is not yet fulfilled as we see human wickedness and terrorism fill the earth.

Every true believer MUST believe in God’s coming kingdom on earth. The plan of God is to make His glory to fill the earth as the waters cover the sea Habakkuk 2:14.

For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

Habakkuk 2:14

The king of that kingdom will be Jesus himself and he will reign from Jerusalem, Israel to the whole world. Then will the prophecy of Isaiah be fulfilled which said:

2 “It will come about in the last days that the mountain that is the LORD’s Temple will be established as the highest of mountains, and will be raised above the hills; all the nations will stream to it.

3 Many groups of people will come, commenting, “Come! Let’s go up to the Temple of the God of Jacob, that they may teach us his ways. Then let’s walk in his paths.” “Instruction will proceed from Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

4 He will judge between the nations, and will render verdicts for the benefit of many. “They will beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nations will not raise swords against nations, and they will not learn warfare anymore.”

Isaiah 2:2-4

Another prophecy of Isaiah describes who is the branch of Jesse (the father of David):

1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;
from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.
The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him—
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of might,
the Spirit of the knowledge and fear of the Lord—
and he will delight in the fear of the Lord.

He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes,
    or decide by what he hears with his ears;
but with righteousness he will judge the needy,
with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth.
He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth;
with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.
Righteousness will be his belt
and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling[a] together;
and a little child will lead them.
The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
The infant will play near the cobra’s den,
and the young child will put its hand into the viper’s nest.
They will neither harm nor destroy
    on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord
as the waters cover the sea
.

Isaiah 11:1-9

So we can now summarize the gospel thus:

  1. God created man to have dominion over all the earth. Genesis 1:27-30 but Adam and Eve failed in this task.
  2. God sent His son our lord Jesus Christ to redeem us from the curse of sin and death by his death or his blood. John 3:16
  3. God promised mankind a coming divine kingdom on earth where the saints in Christ will have dominion over all the earth.
  4. Jesus will be king of that kingdom. Isaiah 11:1-10.
  5. In this kingdom, God will remove death and sorrow. The saints in Christ will live forever. 1 Corinthians 15:23-27.

When will the kingdom of God be established on earth?

After the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

31  “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne.
32  Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33  And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.
34  Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35  For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
36  I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’

Matthew 25:31-36

If the kingdom of God will be established on earth, What will happen to the present human governments?

We already know that there can not be two kings in a kingdom. The dominion of the reign of God will cover the entire earth. This means that every other human government must submit to the reign of Jesus Christ and the saints in those days. The stubborn world leaders will be crushed into pieces. Daniel prophesied thus:

And the kingdom and the dominion and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High; his kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

Daniel 7:27

Now the question is, do you believe in this gospel of the kingdom of God? If yes, belief alone is not enough. Any one who believes the TRUE Gospel must be baptized. Once again, do you believe in this gospel of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ?

12 But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

Acts 8:12
