How is Jesus the seed of Abraham?

Was Paul right? Read to the end. In Galatia 3:8 wrote that “the gospel was first preached to Abraham”, but how was the gospel preached to Abraham in Genesis. Is it the same gospel we have in the New Testament that was preached to Abraham? Let’s see. If you read, you’ll see the true version of the gospel you’ve been searching for.

In Genesis 12:1-3, God promised Abraham that IN shall every human be blessed. In the next chapter, God further promised Abraham that He would give to Abraham and his SEED the four cardinal points of the earth FOREVER. Genesis 13:14.

But how’s this possible? Abraham was old and without child and a country, so how would an old man inherit the earth with his seed FOREVER? This was a big puzzle even to Abraham but he believed anyway. The gospel is manifested in this puzzle.

Now if Abraham and his seed will inherit all the earth FOREVER, the implication is that old Abraham and his seed, even if they died, would rise again to live forever. This is because you can not inherit something forever without living forever. But it makes the simple promise more puzzling. So we have 2 characters :

  1. Abraham
  2. Seed.
    We also have
  3. “inherit the LAND” and
  4. “FOREVER”.

So let’s identify all of this. We already know Abraham but who is or was this Abraham’s seed? Isaac? Jacob? Or Israel? OK, let the Bible answer :

Gal 3:16 “Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. It doesn’t say “seeds,” referring to many, but “your seed,” referring to one person, who is CHRIST.”

So the seed is Jesus Christ. Its becoming clear now because in Jesus, Abraham can rise again and inherit the LAND and live forever! Also by “Inheriting”, this seed, Jesus Christ will be sort of an owner or ruler or king of that land according to this ancient promise. The death and resurrection of the mortal seed Jesus, points to his sacrifice.

But what about the land? Is it just Canaan the biblical land of Israel or does it extend beyond the Israeli borders? Yes its first of all the land of Israel, Jerusalem precisely and then spiritually the entire globe. Remember Abraham was asked to look at the NORTH, EAST AND WEST which was the representation of the earth. The Hebrew for land, Eretz, also means earth. Paul, quoted it as the world:

Rom 4:13 “For the promise that he would inherit the WORLD did not come to Abraham or to his descendants through the Law, but through the righteousness produced by faith.”

So the promise made to Abraham was indeed prophetic and indeed the true gospel. It says that the messiah, Jesus, will rule the ends of the earth from Israel where Abraham stood. Which means that Jesus will come again to subdue all the governments of the world as you know it today, and to set up his own here on earth. Daniel, after he saw the vision of the antichrist, also saw this glorious reign of the Messiah on earth :

Dan 7:27 ISV “Then the kingdom, authority, and magnificence of all nations of the earth will be given to the people who are the saints of the Highest One. His kingdom will endure forever, and all authorities will serve him and obey him.’”

Apostle John saw it too after the final trumpet was sounded :

Rev 11:15 ISV “When the seventh angel blew his trumpet, there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “The world’s kingdom has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will rule forever and ever.””

Thanks for reading this far. But if you noticed, it appears that this promise/gospel is all about Abraham and Jesus. But its not true. Remember that God told Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3 that “in you shall all the families of the earth be blessed”? So with this new understanding from the New Testament, we now know that in Abraham, that is in his seed or in Jesus Christ, all the families of the earth will be blessed!

So Paul went on to explain how we can ACTUALLY be in Jesus and part of the promise. Read carefully to the last verse:

Gal 3:26-29 26 For you are all children of God, through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were BAPTIZED into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 If you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s SEED and heirs according to promise.”

So once you have faith or believe in this one and only true gospel, you must be BAPTIZED, then you become in Christ or in that see of Abraham. Which means when Jesus comes again to set up this kingdom of God on earth, we will become part of those that will reign with him.

In summary, the promise made to Abraham in Genesis is indeed the gospel. In it we see Jesus Christ, The kingdom of God on earth and resurrection from the dead. This is the foundation of the true Christianity which is scarcely heard today. But it is the gospel that saves. So important that even the New Testament starts with it as foundation:

Mat 1:1 “The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the SON OF ABRAHAM”
